Can words be unspoken, whispered secrets revoked, mistakes erased and quarrels resolved by a countdown from 10? Will all be good and well once the clock strikes 00:00 and a page of the calendar is turned over? ‘A new year is a new beginning’, a phrase many use to compensate for their regrets and errors by hoping for a clean slate. But humans we are and humans we will be, so why forcibly remove errors, as if they are not a fait accompli? Humans evolve inside the search and process to lose one, miss one, regain one, and forget one. Can a new year be an opportunity to purify the invading and tainted memories of a human life? Is the blackness beneath the 365-day span of a life always threatening, always saddening, always playing the antagonist? Why would one try to eradicate a body of the past and a part of themselves to nourish their momentous and selfish desire: the desire to be happy, only for a moment, only for 10 seconds? Why is the goal of a new year to build a new world with sparkling resolutions and a glittering future, when these are no more than wishes in a pool filled with uncertainty? Uncertainty, ambiguity, vagueness and…wonder. Are they not one in the same? Should a wonderland always be made of pure, clean, white, and untouched moments, with snowy days and a forgotten past, when in reality it is based on illusory desires and deceitful wishes? Is it not uncertainty that is snowcoated, or rather, sugarcoated, by a promise of a whimsical beginning, a fraud, a fictional yet convincing reality? Do we always have to sacrifice a part of ourselves to open new gates to a wonderland of our own? We think not; let us raise our glasses to always keep wondering in an authentic wonderland. Cheers!
